What medications do you offer for Weight Loss?

We currently offer Ozempic® and Wegovy®  as medical treatments for weight loss. Our QuickDoc team can help you in finding the best dose for your needs and whether this medication is suitable for you.

What is Ozempic®

Ozempic® has the active ingredient semaglutide, which works by inducing satiety (feeling full after eating), which in turn suppresses appetite. It is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection (small needle into the fatty tissue) which can even be administered by yourself. Although not specifically a weight loss drug, research has shown that users of Ozempic® have been shown to lose modest amounts of weight whilst taking this medication. Ozempic® has been approved by Health Canada for the management of weight loss.

Will injecting myself hurt?
Injecting Ozempic® isn’t usually painful. It is a subcutaneous injection which goes just below the surface of the skin (compared to other injections such as vaccines that are injected deeper into the muscle).
What is the dose of Ozempic®?
Our QuickDoc prescribing team will tailor your prescription to your individual needs. The beginning dose is usually 0.25mg once a week for the first 4-6 weeks (This will help give your body a chance to get used to the medication). At this point you may choose to increase your dose to 0.5mg once a week. We find most clients are happy with the 0.5mg dose. After 3 months, there is a possibility of your weight loss progress slowing down and at this point you can contact our team at QuickDoc to discuss increasing your dose.
What are the side effects of Ozempic®?

Ozempic® may cause serious side effects, including:

  • Possible thyroid tumors, including cancer. Tell your health care provider if you get a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. These may be symptoms of thyroid cancer. In studies with rodents, Ozempic® and medicines that work like Ozempic® caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer. It is not known if Ozempic® will cause thyroid tumors or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people.
  • Do not use Ozempic® if you or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
